Whew! It’s Monday
morning and all the South Jersey Quilters who went on the SJQG retreat this
past weekend are recovering from one of the most fun things a quilter can ever
dream of—a long weekend at a quilter’s mecca—Lancaster, Pa.
This retreat is planned a year in advance and is packed with
activities we love. We have been having
our retreat at the Continental Inn (next to Dutch Wonderland) for several years
now, and they treat us like queens.
We rent the Grand Ballroom for the weekend and set up our sewing
stations in it. Each quilter has a large
banquet table to herself to
s—p—r—e—a--d her gear out on. Nice. There
is lots of room for sewing machines, fabric, tools, iron and board, and all of our
other sewing gadgets too.
This year was a little different in that the hotel treated
us to a wine and cheese party which was very nice. Some of the other things we did were a
Mystery Quilt, a “Make and Take” project, Fat Quarter drawings (with four
winners of 20 FQs each), games, and Show & Tell. And when we weren’t sewing, we were visiting
and catching up on news with our friends.
We’re glad the Continental includes our breakfast in the
morning, because some of us will lock ourselves in the ballroom with our sewing
machines, fabric and a mountain of snacks and never consider for a moment to stop
sewing and eat a nourishing morsel of sustenance! (Okay, I’m guilty…)
Many, many thanks go out to Sue, Pat, Kim, Doris and all the other gals who worked so hard to make our retreat one to enjoy and remember. Well wishes go out to our friend Philomena whom we missed very much.
All in all, a great time was had by all.
I’m giving the SJQG Retreat a 5 star internet review. (I can do that, can’t I?)
